At Worsley Bridge Primary School, the aim of teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects, and indeed all other subjects in the curriculum, is to develop curious and academically skilled young people who grow up to become the principled, tolerant and compassionate citizens of the future.
With the roles of STEM subjects taking on even greater importance in our world today, our school is striving to prepare our pupils to thrive in an ever more complex world. We aim to help our children on their path to becoming grown-ups with a solid background in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
At Worsley Bridge, our children’s natural curiosity and thirst for learning is fed by a practical, hands-on inquiry-based curriculum. Children are given the opportunity to take ownership of their learning by exploring and investigating the world around them, through problem solving and collaborative work.
Worsley Bridge Mathematicians are curious, flexible learners who are confident, adventurous, resilient and risk-taking in their approach. With the use of practical activities (models, images and apparatus), exploration and discussion, all children become mentally fluent and are able to see patterns and connections within the number system.
Worsley Bridge children will be competent at dealing with number and its application to real life contexts, able to use appropriate terminology. They will develop their own reliable, effective strategies for calculating, reasoning and problem solving through logical, systematic approaches. We set aspirational goals for our children so that they become confident in their everyday lives and promote enjoyment and enthusiasm through maths.
Children at Worsley Bridge receive Science lessons from a specialist Science teacher in a dedicated Science room as well as from their class teachers. Most Science taught is as practical as possible using as many links to the ‘real world’ as possible.
We have extensive school grounds which offer a fantastic environment through which much of the EYFS and KS1 curriculum can be delivered.
Technology is an inspiring and practical subject allowing children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real life problems.
At Worsley Bridge, our pupils will develop a skill-set which can be used within a variety of contexts, while considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
We aim to offer a challenging and engaging technology curriculum, which is intertwined through our curriculum areas.
