Reception Godstone Farm Visit

Oct 15, 2024 Trips and Visits

Reception children were thrilled to welcome Godstone Farm into school as they found out more about farm life and caring for animals.

The visit, which is part of the ‘Understanding the World’ and ‘Literacy’ sections of the curriculum, saw a range of animals make themselves at home in the School. This term we have been reading ‘The Little Red Hen’ which is about animals on a farm.

Farmer Nikki from Godstone Farm arrived with Penny, Rodney and Henry the hens, Peter and Charlie the Rabbits and Fiona and Fred the Ferrets.

She introduced all the animals in turn, then the children had the chance to hold and stroke them. First up were the rabbits, who were extremely fluffy! Nikki showed the children how to stroke them from their heads then down their back and they heard him squeak and ‘talk’ as they had a cuddle.

Then came the hens who made lots of noise –– and all the children were keen to hold and stroke them. After that, the pupils met the ferrets and quickly discovered that they needed to be held like a noodle to stroke them.

By this time, everyone was beginning to feel a little hungry, so they got ready to feed the animals. Nikki spoke about how she feeds her animals at the farm and what they like to eat.

The children loved the experience and were so happy to have the animals at school.

Thank you to Godstone Farm for an unforgettable visit.
