Back

Our vision for the Modern Foreign Languages is to promote in all pupils a love for languages and encourage an appreciation of their importance in a growing multi-cultural society.

LanguagesWe aim to inspire students through academic & practical learning, which has a modern, relevant view. Our hope is that students will leave Worsley Bridge Primary with the curiosity to deepen their understanding of other countries, cultures and languages, as well as the linguistic skills to broaden their opportunities for the future.

At Worsley Bridge Primary we focus on Spanish throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We believe that it is important that the children gain experiences of other languages. We aim to heighten their awareness of these through the teaching of various topics throughout the school year. European days and Inter-cultural celebrations take place to support this ethos.

Aims

The national curriculum for languages aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
  • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
  • can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
  • discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
